Background & Major Achievements
- Born in Scotland, Triona is a certified British Horse Society (B.H.S.A.I.) and Pony Club Instructor who trained in Great Britain, Ireland and Germany. She has worked with Olympic Equestrian team members in 3-Day-Eventing, and has trained riders and horses from beginner through advanced level.
One of her former students represented Ireland in the 1992 Olympic Games at Barcelona. Her current pupils are consistent winners at all levels. During ten years in Ireland, Triona managed a 50 horse training facility in County Kildare, adjacent to the Irish National Stud, and a 400 acre thoroughbred breeding farm.
Triona moved from Ireland to the United States in 1980 and soon established a successful training centre in Los Altos Hills near Stanford University.
Triona is a past 3 term President of the Los Altos Hills Horsemen's Association.
- In 1996, the entire operation expanded to the Sacramento region.
Presently, she owns and operates the Equestrian Centre at Epona Farms and trains and campaigns hunters, jumpers, event and dressage horses. She also manages day camps and recreational programs for at risk and disadvantaged kids, and Pee-Wee pony riders. Her work is highly respected and her classes are usally on a waiting list.
Triona's unique approach to horse training and riding instruction has earned her wide acclaim, and she has developed several programs for English and Western riding for local organizations. She has also developed a popular camp program for school-age children. She now works successfully with disadvantaged children, kids with behavior problems, handicapped children and adults and has helped hundreds of nervous riders overcome their fears with her Equetherapy Training System (ETS).
Triona specializes in rescuing and rehabilitating horses and ponies from abuse situations. While some older, infirm horses are retired to the stable annex, many become favorite riding buddies at the Centre.
